Hi! I’m Irene,

a filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist.

I’m constantly searching for the best form to tell a story, to explore a theme, or to communicate an emotion. The topics that interest me the most are feminism, gender power dynamics, environmentalism and people's actions against social injustice. Those are present in my short films: Weona Loca (Palm Springs International Film Festival, SANFIC), Alberto (headed to premiere in a few months!) and Baby Steps, which just finished production.

My debut feature film Dirt and Water is in development and was an official selection of the scriptwriting section “El Principio del Film” at Latin America's biggest film market, Ventana Sur 2022. Although I specialize in film, I also work with mixed media and collaborate with digital artists, theater makers and performers, particularly within the company I’m a part of, Glitch.

I grew up in Talca, Chile, and I carry the mountains, the cold Pacific Ocean and the taste of good cherries (and good wine) with me. I’ve been living in NYC for the past five years, and in that period, I’ve graduated with a Film MFA from NYU Tisch and I’ve been Director of Photography on numerous short narrative films. My work is shaped by my bachelor degree in film aesthetics, and my previous work in documentary film back in Chile, both on my own and working for the production company Pez, an incredible small company that explores socially relevant subjects related to memory and justice. In 2022, I was the recipient of the Volker Bahnemann Award for Outstanding Cinematography, awarded by Arri.

Besides dedicating some time to my projects as writer/director, I’m interested in collaborating with other people, whether as a DP or in any capacity that will allow me to explore, grow and learn. So if my work looks like down your alley, hit me up :)
